- Mix boiling water with All-Bran and Shredded Wheat cereals and let cool.
- Cream together shortening, sugar, and beaten eggs.
- Sift all dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt) together.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the creamed mixture, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
- Add the soaked cereals to the batter and mix well.
- Fold in raisins and small-cut dates.
- Pour the batter into greased muffin tins.
- Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
