Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1 cup seedless raisins
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 tablespoon soda
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Boil sugar, cold water, margarine, raisins, salt, cloves, soda, and cinnamon for 5 minutes.
  2. Allow the mixture to cool.
  3. Add beaten eggs, flour, chopped nuts, and chopped mixed fruit if desired.
  4. Pour the batter into greased and floured loaf pans.
  5. Bake at 275°F (135°C) for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
  6. Test for doneness at 1 1/2 hours before removing from oven.
