- In a bowl, combine chopped dates, nuts, butter, and baking soda, then pour over 1 cup boiling water and let stand until cool.

- Stir in flour until just combined.
- Fold in the cooled date and nut mixture, then bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
