- Mix together the melted butter, brown sugar, and flour until crumbly.
- Set aside 2/3 to 1 cup of the mixture for the topping.
- To the remaining mixture, add the egg, baking soda, salt, milk, and vanilla.
- Mix well and pour into a greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
- Sprinkle the reserved crumbs on top.
- Sprinkle with chocolate chips or chopped nuts if desired.
- Bake at 350°F for 25 to 30 minutes.
- Cool and cut into slices.
