Ingredients

  • 15 oz. can kidney beans (do not drain)
  • 15 oz. can chickpeas, drained
  • 15 oz. can black beans, drained
  • 15 oz. can white beans, drained
  • Large can crushed tomatoes
  • 1.5 lb. ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped in large pieces
  • 1 green pepper, chopped in large pieces
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped garlic
  • 2 Tbsp. parsley
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1/8 tsp. red pepper
  • 1 tsp. basil
  • 1 tsp. marjoram
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
  • Cheese (any kind)

Instructions

  1. Saute ground beef, chopped onion, and chopped green pepper in a large kettle.
  2. Add the undrained kidney beans, drained chickpeas, drained black beans, drained white beans, and crushed tomatoes.
  3. Add all other ingredients: garlic, parsley, salt, pepper, red pepper, basil, marjoram, chili powder, and ground cloves.
  4. Heat to boiling.
  5. Reduce heat to simmer and cook for 30 minutes.
  6. Serve topped with cheese.
  7. Great with garlic toast.
  8. Best cooked the night before to develop flavors.
