Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup buttermilk or sour milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 cups diced apples
  • 12 ounces chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 c. sugar

Instructions

  1. Cream the brown sugar, white sugar, and shortening together.
  2. Add eggs and vanilla; beat until smooth.
  3. Sift together the flour, baking powder, soda, and cinnamon.
  4. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the creamed mixture, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Fold in the diced apples.
  6. Mix chocolate chips, cinnamon, and white sugar; sprinkle over the batter.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 35 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
