Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups water
  • 1 cup dry oatmeal
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa
  • 12 ounces chocolate chips
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Pour boiling water over oatmeal; let stand for 10 minutes.
  2. Add brown sugar, white sugar, and margarine; stir until margarine melts.
  3. Add eggs and mix well.
  4. Add flour, cocoa, soda, and salt; mix until combined.
  5. Stir in half of the chocolate chips.
  6. Pour batter into a greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.
  7. Sprinkle nuts and the remaining chocolate chips on top.
  8. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for about 40 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool and cut into squares.
