Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 lb. steak (beef, pork or venison)
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 large green pepper
  • 2 to 3 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 tsp. cumin
  • 1/2 tsp. basil
  • 1/2 tsp. chili powder
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/4 tsp. celery seed
  • 2 cans beans (pinto or kidney)
  • 2 cans whole peeled tomatoes
  • 1 fresh jalapeno pepper
  • salt and pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Cut steak into cubes and small strips.
  2. Cube the onion and green pepper.
  3. In a large frying pan, brown all the meat with half of the onion and green pepper over low heat.
  4. As the meat is browning, add chili powder, basil, celery seed, and half of the garlic.
  5. Add salt, pepper, and Texas Pete to taste.
  6. Add cumin and cayenne pepper.
  7. Cut jalapeno into rings and add to the meat as it cooks.
