- Rinse the corn beef brisket well and barely cover it with hot water in a large pot.
- Add sliced onions, bay leaves, minced garlic, and whole cloves to the pot.
- Cover and simmer about 1 hour per pound or until the meat is tender.
- Remove the meat from the liquid and add potatoes and carrots to the pot.
- Cover and bring to a boil, then cook for 10 minutes.
- Add cabbage wedges and cook for an additional 20 minutes.
- Glaze the cooked meat with mustard and brown sugar.
- Place the meat in the oven and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes.
- Note: Do not skip baking as it helps prevent the meat from drying out.
