Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup sliced celery
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 4 1/2 cups water
  • 1 chicken bouillon cube
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 can undiluted evaporated milk
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 1/2 cups crab or 1/2 pound small shrimp
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 can chopped or sliced mushrooms (optional)

Instructions

  1. Saute chopped onion and sliced celery in butter in a large saucepan.
  2. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Gradually add water while stirring to prevent lumps.
  4. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer gently for 5 minutes.
  5. Add cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup, and crab or shrimp. Simmer for another 5 minutes.
  6. Discard the bay leaf.
  7. Stir in evaporated milk and reheat to serving temperature without boiling.
