Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground fully cooked ham
  • 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 3 tbsp chopped fresh dill
  • 3 tsp dried dill
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 to 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 to 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground ham, bread crumbs, chopped green onions, 1 tablespoon fresh dill, milk, egg, Dijon mustard, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper; mix well.
  2. Shape the mixture into 1-inch balls.
  3. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon butter and 1 tablespoon vegetable oil.
  4. Brown the ham balls in the skillet, adding remaining butter and oil as needed.
  5. Remove the ham balls to a serving dish, cover, and keep warm.
  6. Pour the drippings into a saucepan, blend in flour.
  7. Gradually add water and stir until smooth.
  8. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
  9. Add sour cream, remaining dill, and remaining pepper; heat through without boiling.
  10. Pour the sauce over the ham balls and serve over cooked noodles.
