Ingredients

  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 5 or 6 cups boiling water
  • 2 envelopes dry onion soup mix
  • 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 (4 oz.) can sliced mushrooms, undrained
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine
  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet with lid, cook hamburger until it loses its red color; break meat up with a spoon as it cooks.
  2. Stir in 5 cups boiling water, onion soup mix, bay leaf, ground black pepper, sliced mushrooms, tomato sauce, and red wine.
  3. Heat mixture to boiling.
  4. Stir in uncooked elbow macaroni into boiling liquid; return to boiling.
  5. Reduce heat, cover, and boil slowly, stirring frequently, for 25 to 30 minutes, or until pasta is cooked through.
  6. Add additional water if needed.
