Ingredients

  • 3 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. cloves

Instructions

  1. Combine shortening, sugar, and egg in a bowl.
  2. Beat until fluffy, then add molasses and beat well.
  3. Stir dry ingredients together and add to shortening mixture.
  4. Mix well and chill dough thoroughly.
  5. Shape into one-inch balls and roll in granulated sugar.
  6. Place 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 12 to 15 minutes.
