Ingredients

  • 1 roll Hillshire Farm light Polish kielbasa, sliced quarter size
  • 2 cups 2% milk
  • 1 tablespoon plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons pepper
  • 8 ounces shredded cheese
  • 1 large onion, sliced half-dollar size
  • 4 medium potatoes, sliced half-dollar size
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup celery, diced
  • 1 cup bell pepper, diced
  • 1 can English peas or kidney beans
  • 2 cups cabbage, sliced
  • 5 slices light cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large baking dish, add sliced sausage and milk; bake for 20 minutes.
  3. Remove from oven and add shredded cheese, flour, salt, and pepper; stir well.
  4. Bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes.
  5. Parboil cabbage, onion, potatoes, carrots, celery, and bell pepper for about 20 minutes.
  6. Add the parboiled vegetables to the sausage mixture in the baking dish.
  7. Add some vegetable broth if needed to make room in the dish.
  8. Mix in the can of English peas or kidney beans.
  9. Bake for 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
  10. Place light cheese slices on top of the casserole during the last 5 minutes of baking.
