Ingredients

  • 1 lb. frozen French-style green beans
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 Tbsp. snipped parsley
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. finely shredded lemon peel
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup shredded American cheese
  • 1/4 cup fine bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Cook green beans; drain.
  2. Cook onion and parsley in butter until onion is tender.
  3. Blend in flour, lemon peel, 1/2 teaspoon salt and dash of pepper.
  4. Add milk, cook and stir until thickened and bubbly.
  5. Stir in sour cream and cooked beans; heat until just bubbly.
  6. Spoon into 1-quart casserole.
  7. Sprinkle with shredded American cheese.
  8. Melt the remaining butter; toss with bread crumbs and sprinkle over beans.
  9. Broil 4 to 5 inches from heat until cheese melts and crumbs brown, 1 to 2 minutes.
