Ingredients

  • 1 c. dark syrup
  • 1 or 2 c. shortening
  • 2 c. self-rising flour
  • 1 or 2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • 1 c. black coffee
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 or 2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 pkg. seedless raisins
  • 1 c. chopped peanuts
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 c. chopped prunes

Instructions

  1. Mix dark syrup, shortening, self-rising flour, brown sugar, egg, cocoa powder, and black coffee together.
  2. Add nutmeg, cinnamon, ground cloves, seedless raisins, chopped peanuts, ginger, and chopped prunes to the mixture.
  3. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased and floured pan.
  5. Bake in a slow oven for 1 hour.
