Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 cup mashed bananas
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flours, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and baking soda.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg whites, mashed bananas, buttermilk, applesauce, and vanilla.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped nuts.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before removing from the pan and serving.
