Ingredients

  • 8 oz. short cut elbow macaroni
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 cups grated Cheddar cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups prepared bread stuffing
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 1/4 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Cook macaroni as directed; drain.
  2. Melt butter in a saucepan; blend in flour, 3/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper.
  3. Gradually add milk and heavy cream; cook over low heat.
  4. Stir constantly until thickened.
  5. Add grated Cheddar cheese; stir until melted.
  6. Mix cooked macaroni with cheese sauce.
  7. In a separate bowl, mix together egg, prepared bread stuffing, ground beef, remaining salt, and pepper.
  8. Spread the beef mixture on the bottom of a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.
  9. Cover with the macaroni and cheese mixture.
  10. Bake at 400°F for 35 minutes.
