Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons ginger
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour and spices; set aside.
  2. Cream together sugar and margarine; add molasses and beaten egg.
  3. In a small bowl, mix baking soda, water, and vinegar.
  4. Alternate adding the flour mixture and the liquid mixture to the creamed mixture.
  5. Chill the dough and form into balls; roll in additional sugar.
  6. Bake on greased sheets at 350°F (175°C) for 12 to 15 minutes.
