Ingredients

  • 1 beaten egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups soft bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 medium tomatoes peeled and sliced
  • 6 slices American cheese
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 c. dairy sour cream
  • 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the beaten egg and milk.
  2. Stir in soft bread crumbs, chopped onion, 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper.
  3. Add ground beef and mix well.
  4. Put the meat mixture into an 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes.
  6. Drain off excess fat.
  7. Arrange peeled and sliced tomato slices atop the partially baked meat loaf.
  8. Sprinkle with a little salt and pepper.
  9. Cover with slices of American cheese.
