Party-style meatballs with savory beef and spices, perfect for entertaining or casual dinners. Crispy outside, tender inside, soaked in flavorful bouillon sauce.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 4 slices white bread
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1 onion, chopped fine
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp. allspice
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2 lightly beaten eggs
  • shortening for frying
  • 2 c. beef bouillon
  • 1 Tbsp. parsley

Instructions

  1. Have the ground beef ground together 2 or 3 times.
  2. Crumble the bread and add milk, stirring to form a paste-like consistency.
  3. Combine the bread mixture with the ground beef in a mixing bowl, then add the chopped onion, salt, nutmeg, allspice, pepper, and lightly beaten eggs.
  4. Beat and stir the mixture with a wooden spoon until stiff.
  5. Dip out rounded teaspoonfuls of the mixture and roll between hands into 1-inch meatballs.
  6. Place the meatballs on waxed paper and let dry for about 1/2 hour.
  7. Brown the meatballs in 1/2-inch hot shortening until golden.
  8. Arrange the browned meatballs in a single layer in a baking dish.
  9. Add beef bouillon to the dish and bake in a 350°F oven for about 30 minutes, or until most of the broth is absorbed.
