Ingredients
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 c. sugar ⓘ
- 1 c. butter ⓘ
- 2 eggs ⓘ
- 2 c. self-rising flour ⓘ
- 1 tsp. baking soda ⓘ
- 1 tsp. baking powder ⓘ
- 1 c. quick cooking oats
- 1 tsp. vanilla ⓘ
- 1 1/2 c. chopped candy orange slices, rolled in granulated sugar ⓘ
- 1 c. chopped nuts ⓘ
- 1 1/2 c. chopped dates, rolled in sugar ⓘ
- 1 1/4 c. butter ⓘ
- 2 1/2 c. sugar ⓘ
- 5 eggs ⓘ
- 2 1/2 c. sifted flour ⓘ
Instructions
- Cream the butter, gradually add sugar, and beat until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs, one at a time, creaming well after each addition.
- Sift together self-rising flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
- Add the dry ingredients alternately with milk and vanilla to the creamed mixture.
- Remove 2 cups of batter and blend the cocoa into it.
- Alternately spoon the light and chocolate batters into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan or a 10-inch cast-aluminum Bundt pan.
- Bake in a slow oven (325°F) for 70 minutes if using a tube pan, or 90 minutes if using a Bundt pan, until the cake tests done.
- Cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
- Invert the cake onto a wire rack and remove the pan.
- Cool the cake thoroughly.
- Sift confectioners sugar on top before serving.
