Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb fresh shrimp
  • 2 1/2 cups boiling water
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 onion, minced
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 cup canned tomatoes
  • 2 Tbsp flour
  • 1/2 lb fish fillets
  • 1 can lobster (6 1/2 oz)

Instructions

  1. Wash the shrimp and add boiling water along with salt, pepper, cloves, and bay leaf. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Drain the shrimp, reserving the liquid. Shell the shrimp and remove the black vein.
  3. Cook the minced onion in butter for 3 to 4 minutes until translucent.
  4. Add canned tomatoes and the reserved shrimp liquid to the onion. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes.
  5. Mix the flour with a little cold water to form a paste, then add it to the soup to thicken.
  6. Cook until the soup thickens.
  7. Add the fish fillets cut into small pieces and simmer for 5 minutes.
  8. Add the cooked shrimp and canned lobster, heat thoroughly without boiling.
  9. Serve with crisp stalks of celery for added crunch.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider adding a splash of white wine during the cooking process. If fresh shrimp is unavailable, frozen shrimp can be used, just make sure to thaw them properly. You can also substitute the fish fillets with any firm white fish. This soup pairs beautifully with a side of crisp stalks of celery for added crunch.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the soup hot, garnished with fresh herbs like parsley or dill for added freshness. It pairs well with crusty bread or a light salad, enhancing the overall meal. For a delightful twist, try serving it alongside a King Crab Frittata for a seafood-inspired feast.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. When reheating, do so gently on the stove over low heat to avoid overcooking the shrimp and fish. Adding a splash of water or broth can help restore the soup's consistency.
