Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups canned pumpkin
  • 2 1/3 cups sifted flour
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2/3 cup chopped pecans
  • 2/3 cup dates, cut up

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar gradually until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Blend in water, pumpkin, and sifted dry ingredients (flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, ground cloves).
  4. Fold in chopped pecans and cut-up dates.
  5. Pour batter into two greased 8½ x 4½ x 2½-inch loaf pans.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
