Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp. Baking Soda

Instructions

  1. Cream margarine and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk or milk, mixing until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into cupcake liners in a muffin tin.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow cupcakes to cool before frosting or serving.
