Ingredients

  • 3 sticks butter or margarine
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 cup + 6 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 12 ounces peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix 2 sticks of butter with 1/2 cup cocoa and 1 cup water in a saucepan; melt together over low heat.
  3. Add 1/2 cup buttermilk to the saucepan; add 2 eggs and mix well.
  4. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the saucepan mixture and stir until combined.
  6. Grease and flour a 9 x 13-inch cake pan or muffin cups.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  8. Bake for 25 minutes, then let the cake cool.
  9. Mix peanut butter and spread evenly on the cooled cake.
  10. Combine 1 teaspoon vanilla with powdered sugar and dust over the top of the cake.
