Tips & Substitutions

For added tenderness, consider marinating the round steak in a mixture of Worcestershire sauce and a splash of vinegar for a few hours before cooking. If you don't have bell pepper flakes, smoked paprika can provide a nice smoky flavor. You can also substitute the green beans with frozen mixed vegetables for a colorful twist. This dish is a great addition to your collection of American recipes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different cut of beef for this recipe?

Yes, while round steak is traditional, you can also use flank steak or chuck roast. Just ensure that the cut is tenderized sufficiently, as these cuts can be tougher than round steak.

Is there a vegetarian alternative for this recipe?

Absolutely! You can replace the beef with hearty vegetables like portobello mushrooms or tempeh. Use vegetable broth instead of beef bouillon, and follow the same cooking instructions for a delicious vegetarian version.

Can I prepare this dish in advance?

Yes, you can prepare the sauce and vegetables ahead of time, then cook the steak just before serving. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully while keeping the steak tender and juicy.
