  1. Drain the apple rings.
  2. Brown the sausage in 1 tablespoon oil in a 10-inch ovenproof skillet.
  3. Arrange the sausages in a spoke fashion around 1 apple ring in the skillet.
  4. Mix the batter ingredients until just moistened.
  5. Drop half of the batter between the sausages and over the center apple ring.
  6. Arrange the remaining apple rings over the batter.
  7. Carefully spread the reserved batter over the apples and sausages.
  8. Bake at 400°F for 20 to 25 minutes.
  9. Invert the skillet onto a serving plate.
  10. Cut into wedges and serve with hot maple syrup.
