Ingredients
- 6 cups finely shredded cabbage ⓘ
- 2 cups boiling salted water ⓘ
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine ⓘ
- 1/4 cup flour ⓘ
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard ⓘ
- 1/2 teaspoon salt ⓘ
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper ⓘ
- 1 1/2 cups milk ⓘ
- 1/2 cup grated sharp Cheddar cheese ⓘ
- 2 tablespoons grated onion
- 2 cups diced precooked ham ⓘ
- 1/4 cup dry bread crumbs, toasted ⓘ
Instructions
- Cook cabbage, covered, in boiling salted water for about 10 minutes. Drain well.
- Melt butter or margarine in a saucepan; blend in flour, dry mustard, salt, and pepper.
- Gradually stir in milk and cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and boils.
- Add grated cheese and grated onion; cook until cheese melts.
- Place drained cabbage in a 1 1/2-quart baking dish.
- Add diced ham and pour the sauce over all.
- Mix well with a fork and top with toasted bread crumbs.
- Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes or until bubbly and brown.
