Ingredients

  • 4 cups coarsely chopped celery
  • 1/4 cup slivered blanched almonds
  • 1 (6 oz) can water chestnuts, drained and sliced
  • 1 (4 oz) can mushrooms
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Boil the chopped celery in water for 5 minutes, then drain.
  2. Mix the drained celery with slivered almonds, sliced water chestnuts, and sliced mushrooms.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  4. Add flour to the melted butter and cook until it bubbles.
  5. Gradually add 1/2 cup of milk and chicken broth, stirring constantly.
  6. Cook until the mixture thickens.
  7. Blend the celery mixture into the sauce.
  8. Pour the mixture into a casserole dish.
  9. Top with bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese.
  10. Bake at 375°F until hot and bubbly.
