Ingredients

  • 3 lb. pork spareribs
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons catsup
  • 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon red pepper
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1/2 cup cooking sherry
  • 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion

Instructions

  1. Place ribs on a lightly greased rack in a shallow roasting pan.
  2. Bake, uncovered, at 425°F for 30 minutes.
  3. In a medium saucepan, sauté chopped onion in oil.
  4. Combine remaining ingredients and add to sautéed onion.
  5. Bring to a boil, stirring well.
  6. Place the roasting pan 7 to 8 inches from the heating element.
  7. Broil ribs for 15 minutes, turning every 5 minutes.
  8. Baste the ribs liberally with the sauce, serving remaining sauce with the spareribs.
