Tips & Substitutions

For a lighter version, consider using a firm white fish like cod or tilapia. You can substitute cooked crab or scallops for the shrimp if preferred. If you don't have fresh basil, dried basil works well too, but use about a third of the amount. For added flavor, include some capers or olives from Mediterranean recipes to enhance the dish.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this dish hot over a bed of rice or spaghetti for a complete meal. A side of garlic bread or a fresh green salad would complement the flavors beautifully. For a twist, consider pairing it with Tuna-Clam Spaghetti for a seafood feast that highlights different textures and tastes.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place the fish in a baking dish, cover with foil, and warm in a preheated oven at 350°F until heated through. This helps maintain the moisture of the fish and shrimp.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen fish for this recipe?

Yes, you can use frozen fish. Just ensure it's fully thawed and patted dry before cooking to avoid excess moisture. This will help achieve a better texture in the final dish.

What kind of white fish is best for this recipe?

Firm white fish such as cod, haddock, or tilapia works best due to their ability to hold up during baking. They also absorb flavors well, making them ideal for this Sicilian preparation.

Can I make this dish ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the dish up to the baking stage and store it in the refrigerator. Just cover it tightly with plastic wrap or foil. When ready to serve, bake it directly from the fridge, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
