Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 1/2 c. dry bread crumbs
  • 2 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 c. evaporated milk
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 can French onion soup
  • 1/2 c. water

Instructions

  1. Mix ground beef, egg, grated onion, bread crumbs, cornstarch, salt, pepper, ginger, nutmeg, and evaporated milk in a large bowl.
  2. Form the mixture into about 30 walnut-sized balls.
  3. Brown the meatballs in melted shortening in a large frying pan.
  4. Combine the French onion soup and water.
  5. Pour the soup mixture over the browned meatballs.
  6. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes until cooked through.
