Ingredients

  • 2 lb. shine beef or chuck, fat cut out
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 10 crushed gingersnap cookies
  • 5 whole allspice
  • 2 slices cloves
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 5 heaping Tbsp. brown sugar
  • pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil beef in 5 cups water for 1 1/2 hours or until beef is tender, adding the onion, salt, bay leaf, allspice, and cloves.
  2. Cool 2 cups of hot juice.
  3. Add gingersnap cookies and mix.
  4. Stir in brown sugar.
  5. Simmer for 45 minutes or more.
