Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup A.1 steak sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 pound boneless beef sirloin steak, 1-inch thick
  • red peppers, cut into squares
  • green peppers, cut into squares
  • 2 cups pineapple chunks

Instructions

  1. Mix A.1 steak sauce, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic, and ground ginger in a bowl.
  2. Thinly slice the steak and place it in a Ziploc bag with 3/4 of the marinade. Marinate overnight.
  3. Remove the meat from the marinade and discard the bag with the marinade.
  4. Thread the steak, red and green peppers, pineapple chunks, and optional shrimp onto skewers alternately.
  5. Grill or broil the kabobs for 4 to 6 minutes, turning once.
  6. Baste the kabobs with the reserved marinade during cooking.

Tips & Substitutions

For added flavor, consider using fresh ginger instead of ground ginger, and if you prefer a bit of heat, add some red pepper flakes to the marinade. You can substitute the beef sirloin with chicken or tofu for a different protein. If you’re short on time, marinate for at least 30 minutes instead of overnight, but the longer the better for flavor absorption.

Serving Suggestions

Serve these teriyaki steak kabobs over a bed of Japanese fried rice for a complete meal. Pair with a fresh salad or grilled vegetables for a lighter option. Consider serving with a side of soy sauce or a spicy dipping sauce for extra flavor. These kabobs also make a great addition to any summer barbecue.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover kabobs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place them on a baking sheet and warm in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes or until heated through. Alternatively, you can reheat them in a skillet over medium heat for a few minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of meat for the kabobs?

Yes, you can easily substitute the beef sirloin with chicken breast, shrimp, or even tofu for a vegetarian option. Just adjust the marinating time according to the protein you choose, as chicken and shrimp will require less time than beef.

What can I do if I don't have A.1 steak sauce?

If you don’t have A.1 steak sauce, you can create a similar flavor by combining ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and a splash of vinegar. This will mimic the tangy and savory profile of A.1 in the marinade.

Can I make these kabobs in the oven instead of grilling?

Absolutely! Preheat your oven to 400°F and place the skewers on a baking sheet. Bake for about 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through, until the meat is cooked to your desired doneness. This method works well if you don’t have access to a grill.
