Ingredients

  • Pastry for 9-inch pie
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 (10-ounce) package frozen chopped broccoli
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 3 ounces cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 egg
  • 4 ounces sliced Monterey Jack cheese

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef and chopped onion in a skillet; drain excess fat.
  2. Cook the frozen chopped broccoli according to package instructions; drain.
  3. In a saucepan, combine 1 1/4 cups milk, cream cheese, flour, and salt.
  4. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is smooth and thickened.
  5. Beat the egg; add a little hot mixture to the egg to temper it, then stir the egg mixture into the hot sauce. Cook until thickened.
  6. Add the cooked beef, onion, and broccoli to the sauce; mix well.
  7. Pour the filling into a 9-inch pie crust.
  8. Top with sliced Monterey Jack cheese.
  9. Cover with the remaining pastry crust and seal the edges.
  10. Prick the top of the pie with a fork to vent steam.
  11. Brush the top crust with 1 tablespoon of milk.
  12. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes.
  13. Allow the pie to cool for 20 minutes before serving.
