Ingredients

  • 7 oz. elbow macaroni
  • 1 cup sliced celery
  • 9 1/2 oz. water packed tuna
  • 2 Tbsp. minced onion
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. white pepper
  • 12 oz. shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Cook macaroni as directed on package; drain and rinse.
  3. Stir celery into macaroni.
  4. Place half of the macaroni mixture into an ungreased 9 x 13-inch dish.
  5. Flake tuna into a large bowl.
  6. Combine salt, white pepper, and shredded Cheddar cheese with tuna.
  7. Sprinkle half of the tuna mixture over the macaroni layer.
  8. Repeat layers: first macaroni, then tuna mixture.
  9. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan over low heat.
  10. Stir in flour along with remaining salt and white pepper.
  11. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is smooth and bubbly.
  12. Remove from heat.
  13. Stir in sour cream and chicken broth.
  14. Return to heat, stirring constantly, until sauce boils.
  15. Pour sauce over the layered mixture and dot with 1 tablespoon of butter.
  16. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  17. Uncover and bake for another 15 minutes or until the sauce turns golden brown.
