Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Ground Beef
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 cup cooked Rice
  • 1 tbsp. Sugar
  • Dash of Cinnamon
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 26 oz. jar Tomato Sauce
  • 1 small can Sauerkraut, drained
  • 2 tbsp. Brown Sugar
  • ¾ cup Raisins

Instructions

  1. Mix ground beef with eggs, cooked rice, and sugar.
  2. Season the mixture with cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
  3. Form the seasoned mixture into meatballs.
  4. Sauté chopped onion in a little oil until golden.
  5. Add tomato sauce, half a jar of its water, sauerkraut, brown sugar, and raisins to the pan.
  6. Heat the sauce until it simmers.
  7. Shred or thin‑slice the cabbage, removing hard veins.
  8. Place a layer of sauce at the bottom of a roasting pan.
  9. Spread half the cabbage over the sauce.
  10. Arrange the meatballs on top of the cabbage.
  11. Cover the meatballs with the remaining cabbage and pour the rest of the sauce over everything.
  12. Cover the pan with a lid or foil and bake at 325°F (165°C) for 1½ hours.
  13. Reduce the oven temperature to 275°F (135°C) and bake for an additional hour.
  14. Remove from oven, let rest briefly, then serve.
