Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 10 oz ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup plus 1 Tbsp flour
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 tsp basil leaves
  • 1/4 tsp fennel seed
  • 1/8 tsp oregano leaves
  • 3 oz shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Spray a 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan with cooking spray or PAM.
  3. In a non-stick skillet, heat 1/2 tablespoon vegetable oil over medium heat.
  4. Add ground turkey and chopped onion; cook, stirring occasionally, until onion is tender and turkey is cooked through.
  5. Add 1 tablespoon flour and stir quickly to combine; cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute.
  6. Gradually stir in tomato sauce; add basil, fennel seed, and crumbled oregano leaves.
  7. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
  8. Transfer the turkey mixture to the prepared loaf pan.
  9. Sprinkle shredded Mozzarella cheese evenly over the mixture.
  10. In a small bowl, whisk together egg, milk, salt, and grated Parmesan cheese.
  11. Pour the egg mixture over the cheese in the loaf pan.
  12. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 20 minutes or until the top is golden and set.
