- In a large saucepan, combine vegetable broth, dried split peas, chopped onion, chopped carrots, chopped celery, minced garlic, dried marjoram, dried basil, cumin, salt, and pepper; bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat; cover and simmer for one hour or until peas are tender, stirring occasionally.
- Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
- In small batches, puree the soup in a blender until smooth.
- Return the pureed soup to the pan and heat for 5 minutes.
- Garnish with shredded carrots before serving.
