Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 1/2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 c. chopped walnuts
  • 2 c. raisins
  • 1 c. chopped dates

Instructions

  1. Cream together shortening, brown sugar, and eggs.
  2. Add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the creamed mixture and mix well.
  3. Stir in chopped walnuts, raisins, and chopped dates.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a greased cookie sheet.
  5. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 10 to 12 minutes until golden.
