Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup diced apples
  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked rolled oats
  • 1 cup raisins

Instructions

  1. Sift together the flour, baking powder, soda, salt, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and nutmeg.
  2. Add shortening, brown sugar, egg, and water to the dry ingredients and beat until thoroughly mixed.
  3. Stir in diced apples, rolled oats, and raisins. The mixture will be stiff.
  4. Make balls of dough about the size of a large walnut and roll in a mixture of 2 tablespoons of cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon sugar.
  5. Place the cookies on a baking sheet and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 8 to 10 minutes.
