Ingredients

  • 1 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped peeled apples
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease an 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking pan.
  3. In a bowl, combine quick-cooking oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice, and baking soda.
  4. Add vegetable oil and maple syrup; mix until crumbly.
  5. In the prepared pan, spread the applesauce evenly.
  6. Sprinkle chopped apples and chopped walnuts over the applesauce.
  7. Evenly distribute the oat mixture over the top.
  8. Bake for 25 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
