Ingredients

  • 2 cups unsifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup soft margarine
  • 2 cups hot applesauce
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 3/4 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Sift the flour, soda, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, cloves, and salt into a bowl.
  2. Add eggs, brown sugar, margarine, and 1 cup of hot applesauce. Beat until combined on low speed, then beat for 2 minutes on medium speed.
  3. Add the remaining applesauce, chopped dates, and chopped nuts to the mixture.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased 9 x 9-inch pan.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
