Ingredients

  • 8 oz. mostaccioli noodles
  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • 1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes, cut up
  • 2 (8 oz) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato paste
  • 1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon crushed basil
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 large bay leaf
  • 8 oz. shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Brown ground beef, onion, green pepper, and garlic in a skillet; drain excess fat.
  2. Add undrained tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, undrained mushrooms, water, salt, sugar, crushed basil, pepper, and bay leaf to the skillet.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil; then reduce heat and cover.
  4. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove the bay leaf from the sauce.
  6. Add the cooked noodles to the sauce and stir to combine.
  7. Transfer to a baking dish, sprinkle with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
  8. Bake until cheese is melted and bubbly, about 15 minutes.
