Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 c. minced onion
  • 1/2 c. finely diced green pepper or celery
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp. poultry seasoning
  • 1 tsp. prepared mustard
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 (14 oz.) bottle catsup
  • water
  • 18 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat; add ground beef and minced onion.
  2. Cook until the meat is lightly browned.
  3. In a bowl, mix green pepper or celery, salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, prepared mustard, vinegar, brown sugar, and catsup.
  4. Pour the mixture into the skillet with the meat.
  5. Bring to a boil, then cover tightly.
  6. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for several hours, stirring occasionally.
  7. Add a little water if the mixture becomes too thick during simmering.
  8. Serve the hot meat mixture on warm, buttered hamburger buns.
