Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. hamburger
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • pinch of oregano
  • 2 thin sliced potatoes
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 can tomatoes (1 lb. 12 oz.)
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 4 cups chopped cabbage
  • 2 cups bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Brown the hamburger in a large skillet.
  2. When the meat begins to change color, add chopped celery and chopped onion.
  3. Cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in flour, canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, black pepper, and oregano.
  5. Bring to a boil.
  6. Remove from heat.
  7. Alternate layers of meat mixture, chopped cabbage, and sliced potatoes in a 3-quart casserole dish.
  8. Sprinkle with bread crumbs and dot with butter.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour, or until vegetables are tender.
