Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 cup stout beer
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 1 cup mix peel
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup raisins and currants
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Melt butter, stout beer, brown sugar, and honey together.
  2. Allow the mixture to cool.
  3. Beat the egg separately.
  4. Add the beaten egg to the cooled mixture.
  5. Mix in nutmeg, dried peel, and dried fruits.
  6. Add flour and mix until well blended.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased bread pan.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until well done, approximately 35 minutes.
  9. Brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar before serving.
