Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1.5 lb. Eckrich kielbasa sausage, sliced and halved
  • 1.5 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 0.5 jalapeno pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups dark red wine
  • 0.5 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1.5 teaspoons chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 teaspoons pepper
  • 6 cups Italian tomatoes
  • 1 (15 oz.) can pinto beans
  • 1 (15 oz.) can kidney beans

Instructions

  1. Brown bacon and sausage in a large pot.
  2. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, brown the ground beef and drain excess fat.
  4. Add onion, bell pepper, garlic, and jalapeno pepper; cook over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Stir in dark red wine and Worcestershire sauce; bring to a simmer.
  6. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  7. Mash the tomatoes.
  8. Add mashed tomatoes, their juice, and all cooked meats to the onion mixture.
  9. Heat to boiling.
  10. Reduce heat and simmer covered for 30 minutes.
  11. Stir in the pinto beans and kidney beans.
  12. Cover and simmer for an additional hour, stirring occasionally.
