  • 8 broiler-fryer chicken thighs
  • 1/4 c. cooking oil

  • 2 large sliced onions
  • 1/2 c. evaporated milk
  • 4 minced cloves garlic
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 tsp. crushed red pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large frypan, heat 1/4 cup cooking oil over medium heat.

Tips & Substitutions

To enhance the flavor, consider marinating the chicken thighs in the lemon juice and brown sugar mixture for a few hours before cooking. If you don't have cooking oil, you can substitute with melted butter or olive oil. For a spicier kick, add more crushed red pepper or a dash of hot sauce. This recipe can also be adapted for a vegetarian version using portobello mushrooms instead of chicken.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this cheese steak dish with a side of crispy French fries or a fresh green salad for a complete meal. It also pairs beautifully with Chicken And Waffles, offering a delightful contrast of flavors. For a heartier option, consider serving it over rice or in a toasted hoagie roll for a delicious sandwich.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place the chicken and sauce in a skillet over medium heat, stirring occasionally until heated through. If the dish seems dry, add a splash of chicken broth or water to maintain moisture.

Absolutely! While Velveeta provides a creamy texture, you can substitute with provolone, mozzarella, or cheddar cheese. Just ensure that the cheese you choose melts well to maintain that gooey cheesesteak experience.

How can I make this dish spicier?

To add more heat, increase the amount of crushed red pepper or incorporate diced jalapeños or serrano peppers. You can also drizzle some hot sauce over the finished dish for an extra kick.

Can I make this dish ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare this cheese steak dish ahead of time. Cook it as per the instructions, then cool and refrigerate. When ready to serve, reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave, adding a little milk or broth if needed to retain creaminess.
